1st. Summit on Small Wind Turbines – the results

23.03.2010

Bonn/Husum, 22 march 2010

WWEA is very pleased that the first World Summit on Small Wind Turbines organised in close cooperation with New Energy Husum. The Summit has become such a great success, with participants from 30 countries and more than 50 small wind exhibitors at the trade fair. Presentations from around the world demonstrated in an impressive way the market potential of small wind and how important small wind turbines already are in some parts of the world, where they cover basic energy needs, e.g. in China or African countries. Small wind turbines are also playing an increasing role in industrialised countries where more and more people use them to generate their own electricity. For this purpose, some government have started to set up favourable frameworks such as feed-in tariffs.

The international delegates agreed on the importance of international technical standards for small wind turbines to ensure good quality and compliance with technical requirements. It was also emphasized that such standards should be harmonised on a global level, in order to enhance the proliferation of small wind turbines, also across borders.

WWEA and New Energy look forward to the 2nd World Small Wind Summit which will focus primarily on good policies for small wind turbines.

The next New Energy Husum takes place from 17-20 March 2011
